The choice of the variety

The first decision to take is to evaluate whether the variety will be used to produce wine or will be consumed fresh (also known as table varieties)
There are some varieties that have particular characteristics for which they can be considered with a double attitude (Moscati, Malvasie, Schiava,…)

Afterwards it is possible to choose the colour of the berry (white, red, pinkish...) which depends on one’s personal taste but is not affected by external factors.

Resistance to major fungal diseases is a primary factor of choice. In urban environments, that is, for gardens, terraces, balconies, roundabouts, it is necessary to opt for varieties that do not need any treatments, which are resistant varieties. For vegetable gardens and small vineyards for personal use, the assessment is up to the winemaker depending on sensitivity and technical skills.

For table varieties it is possible to opt for either the presence of seeds or not, the flavor, the size of the berry…

The variety is also affected by the weather: in cold areas and in the mountains, it is possible to choose only among early varieties, whereas in warmer areas, there is much more of a choice by expanding the maturing calendar.

All these of these possibilities of choice are easily selectable in the menu filter.

The choice of the rootstock

VITIFERA mainly uses ubiquitous rootstock, KOBER, SO4, 1103P, 110R and there is a possibility of choice through the site.

For small vineyard the vine grower  can ask us in advance, by email, which could be the best rootstock in its specific case.

The potted plants

For some varieties there is the possibility of choosing the type of bare root plant (rooted even in bunches of 25 plants) or potted plant.

Grafted vine is a one-year-old plant, which includes 10-15 cm of roots, 30 cm of rootstock and grafting with variety. This must be placed in the soil and must be cultivated in order to have production in the third year.

With the potted plant, which is 120-140 cm tall, it is possible to produce even in the exact some year of being placed.

Planting

For the planting procedure in the soil for 2-years-old potted plants It is necessary to dig a hole of 50cm of depth and 40 cm wide. The plant must be buried keeping the grafting point 10 cm above the ground.

For bare root plants is needed to dig a hole 30 cm deep and 20 cm wide.

Period of planting

The best time for transplantation is from October to March for potted plant, while for bare root plants from late November to May.

After the month of March, it will necessary to provide more care and irrigation
